- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 12 ladyfinger cookies
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- In a medium bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy.
- Heat the milk in a saucepan and gradually whisk it into the egg mixture.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook until it thickens slightly. Let it cool.
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- Fold the whipped cream into the cooled custard mixture.
- Combine the coffee and liqueur in a shallow dish.
- Dip each ladyfinger in the coffee mixture for about a second, then place them in a serving dish.
- Spread half of the cream mixture over the ladyfingers, then repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and cream.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- Before serving, dust with cocoa powder.
