  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 slices rye bread
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until caramelized.
  2. In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce to create the secret sauce.
  3. Shape the ground beef into patties and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Grill the patties to your desired doneness.
  5. Assemble the patty melt: place a patty on a slice of rye bread, top with caramelized onions and cheese, then spread secret sauce on another slice and close the sandwich.
  6. Heat the skillet again and grill the sandwich with remaining butter until golden brown on both sides.
